The Change Has not Come!!!

We dreamed and fantasized about the change from dictatorial authoritarian rule to the sweetness of free democracy! Our dreams came to be real end of 2008 when Gayoom was "dethroned" by Anni. We rejoiced and paraded on the streets boasting the victory fo the people. The dream was short lived now it seems!
2 years have passed, my grandma gets 2000 MVR a month,me and my wife we have local medical insurance and ... and... and.. the dream is yet again a DREAM!
Environment :
1-Islands are being "grown" made bigger by Sand Mining
2-13 Islands have artificial cement Sea walls built (which is more than Gayyoom built in 30 years)
3-Male' Hiya Flat the people have been living from 8th floor down with no proper lift or elevator and the garbage shoot does not work and the buildings ahve no maintainance budget
4-Environmentally significant islands are being rented out to Private Company's owned by dignitaries in this government via a Cabinet Decision even though the Environment Protection Agency has decided against it
5-The president and his party members in the government are campaigning for local council election on state visits using state finances
6- The civil service are neglected as "DRP" persons and they are the scapegoats for the financial downturn the country faces
7-Political posts are rising each day including the Council Members being politicians rather than development officers
8- The people are suffering through high food costs
9-Taxation and Pension schemes are implemented without proper public education/awarenes 7% of all employees salary goes into it and only way out is when you turn 66 to get the returns
10-Least not last the economy is broken and still the focus is on winning the next election by crook and not winning the people over by goodwill and achievements
I Stop here now cox this is no longer a dream but a Nightmare!!! SIGH i have yet to begin on Members of Parliament!!! YUCK

Global President not a Local President in Climate Change

The Maldives islands are one of the smallest island nations of the world. With a population of around 300,000 people scattered across 1200 islands it is the ideal destination for tourists seeking solitude, relaxation and comfort.
In 2008 Maldives joined the ranks of other Democratic countries by electing a President via public vote through a multi party process, ending 30 years of cruel dictatorship that left the country way back in development than it could have been. Quite strangely this did not create as much media frenzy as did the president Mohammed Nasheed’s spectacular performance at the Copenhagen Conference of Parties 15th meeting in 2009.
Maldives made headlines weeks before the summit when the president declared to go Carbon Neutral by 2020 with support from world renown environmental scientist Mark Lynas. Maldives also accepted and supported the 350 ppm of CO2 in atmosphere campaign run by the 350.org people. In October 2009 President Nasheed made headlines again by conducting an underwater cabinet meeting for the 350.org day of action.
In Copenhagen he was seen as a savior of the small island nations who were affected by drastic changes in climate including receding coastlines and salty groundwater. Mr.Nasheed was on the spot light all throughout the COP15 giving interviews and globally announcing the support for 350.org campaign. At one point he was named the “Global President” by civil society movements.
The whole heroic deeds came to a bitter end when at the end of the COP15 when all other small island nations including Tuvalu claimed the summit to be a failure as no agreements were reached to the expectations but president Nasheed in his concluding speech boasted the summit a success.
Some say he wanted the fame and others say he simply did not understand the outcomes and implications of the decisions made. Quite frankly my opinion is he did not understand the negotiations process and had not been briefed on the actual science but we still can leave this aside.
Now we look at Maldives and what it has done in the wake of COP15 to go carbon neutral or just simply for environmental preservation.
What has happened:
• Government has Reclaimed 13 islands each with at least 8 hectors of land
• Out of these approximately 80% of reclamation was done usafely by not using a protection net hence silt covered up a lot of the reefs, according to environmentalists
• Civil Society support has been nil by the government
• Public and Civil society involvement in decisions and accumulation of the message and stand for COP16 was not done
• More media friendly events were supported like the Hay Festival where the Minister of Environment gave absolutely fantastic interviews and reads and also the Solar Panels on the Presidents residence
• The Environmental Protection Agency –the monitoring body is still a government body rather than an independent commission or authority
• No civil society capacity developmental actions taken or even encouragements
• All environmental decision including deciding to allow some islands to Culture Sea Cucumber of alien species in fresh water lakes are all politically motivated
The list goes on but I shall not bore you. So my great concern is this year the Maldives will be seen as a JOKE rather than a serious negotiator if spectacular media sketches are played rather than proper negotiations. Also I wonder what Mr.Nasheed would say if a media asks him: “what are the local efforts of mitigation being carried out in the Maldives?”

Time to Bring it all Back

we worked so hard to bring democracy and change to the Maldives. We stood our ground and made the challenge and wont the fight;but did we really win the war???
the things we worked for:
1-Freedom of speech
2-End the dictatorship
3-Increase productivity and the Economy
4-Reduce government expenditure
5-Unite the people
What we have achieved:
1-Reduced tolerance and increased religious ambiguity
2-Increased violence and gang related crime
3-Economy in crisis
4-Increased expenditure
5-Greater divisions of people

SO WHAT THE HELLS GOING ON????
I think it is time that the people who stood for freedom stand up ounce more. This time to say keep your thoughts to yourself if you feel another is thinking wrong. Correct only actions that affect others in a negative way.Each has a brain and each to gain knowledge each to think for themselves. Each decision be guided by knowledge and fact and that in truth is the Islamic way. Im tired of this crap of religious divide causing the younger generations to loose faith in religion as a whole and soon we will have cliques of youth who will not believe at all and then we will be in real crap neck deep. Even with the growing problems of hatred...drugs..extremism...rape..violence..child abuse...and Murder...there seems to be very little concern amongst the general public and the media and the government and also the whole of the civil society...nothing more than just a "good" gossip or fascinating story...where is our compassion?sympathy?care? kindness? general sense of humanity???
If this government is to focus on the economical aspects and the political ambitions of it...i wonder what of the social fabric?? It shall be netted with holes and no longer a fabric but rather a fishing net!!!
In these four years of power i cant think how they could call themselves a successful leadership if they neglect these grave issues!!! What of the status of this community? I wonder who is scared..worried...and thinking about it?
The new government is trying...yes...but is it enough???
They say now its being reported more...well that is a very arguable answer...and also if it is being reported more should we not DO more too???
Well i think its time the Ministry of HEalth waAKES UP!!!!

It is sad to see so many young peopel have been mislead and lead to beleive that they are in the RIGHT path to go fight a war they do not even understand. WOW just simply WOW amaxing how we have come to be where we are now...form dictatorship of 30 years to this "democracy"...we still have one guy ruling over us....we have a puppet government ...a Zoo of a parliament...and a public still bought out by money...selfish greedy self centred bastards are we not???...i feel disgusted to be here in this position....an year of nothignness i would say...where so much hope choices...opportunities came for the country..we are now at a point the future seems more bleak than ever...well im biased to say NOThign happened...ofcox now after the COP15 MEdia SHOW we are now more popular than ever...our beloved president had those 10,000 Articles about him and of course Maldives all over the media...but what have we acheived mroe than that??? a LOT OF empty promsies have been made....a lot of civil servants let go..a lot of pay cuts...all in goods name...and still we talk about building bridges and recalminig new cities and building harbours...is that not what got us here in the past government as well??? where is the transport systems? the education system??? the volunteer corp? The independadnt commissions? HUman Rights Commisison? The 6 DRUG LORDS whose names they already knew??? What about jsuticve of children...that thign who abused more than 35 got 6 eyars...??? Where are the youth focussed programs? the youth council? the sports councils??? YEA we HAVE NO BUDGET....but we have enought for a lot of politicians....three state ministers...ina ministtry??? wheres the corporate social responsibility bill???? wheres the revised child rights bill??? Citizens of Maldives VOice out on Climate Change

S.O.S a local NGO working for a better future for the youth of Maldives.They held a local meeting of the global campaign called World Wide Views carried out by the Danish Board of Technology [www.wwviews.org].
This meeting brought together a group of citizens to and helped find their views on Climate Change and the Global policies regarding it. This was the first of its kind...maybe this is what the government should also be doing. More democratic values are realized through these kinds of public participation activities. Check out the results compared to other countries. IT is quite interesting. it seems we are not as concerned as other citizens of the world on the Climate Change issue. Strange ain't it.

The Climate Summit and Maldives - COP15

The world is gearing up for the summit that can literally conclude the future of the world.The Conference of Parties summit number 15 will be held in Copenhagen in December 2009.This will be the summit where 4 major issues that concern Maldives will also be decided:
1-Will the new President Mohammed Nasheed attend the summit with the talks of lack of funding in the government budget?
2-As one of the major contributors to Climate Change and its adverse effects;Will the USA sign onto the new document that will succeed the Kyoto Protocol that USA previously refused to sign onto?
3-Will there be same or harsher penalties for Developing countries that emit large amounts of CO2 or will it be the richer countries who pay?
4-Will the 350.org campaign succeed and Mr.Bill Mc.Kibben and a lot of scientific support given minimum amount of CO2 in the atmosphere of 350parts per million be the new limit that the world works to meet?

Well these are all major issues concerning the Maldives. For one thing our leader should be there for the sake of all small island nations. While we have been lucky and blessed to have such richness compared to many low lying vulnerable nations, our democratically elected leader in my opinion should be there for all of us.His presence alone will be a powerful statement.

The USA is one of the leading CO2 emmiters and their signing on can be a turning point in the global warming crisis.While they argue developing countries burn more fossil fuel and release as much CO2 the argument is futile when one claims to be of greater intellect and power.I believe things have to proven in action not just words. Again Maldives becomes key as our president has unprecedented access to Chinese and Indian government and politicians and a ;leverage the Americans don't have. Mr.Nasheed could be the negotiator that can actually strike a common deal between China India and America as the worlds largest Co2 emmiters to sign on to an agreement.This can be world history that future generations will always look back in awe and love and thankfulness.

350.org campaign by the writer Bill Mc.Kibben is being a greater force that can greatly benefit the world. Reducing the global CO2 levels in the atmosphere and maintaining can actually be the only solution that low lying islands like Maldives has. If we are to give a blind eye and call him a fool then it is our future that we gamble. Will we do that? Of course not! 350ppm is the minimal level at which the world can survive and prosper that has been scientifically proven. Right now we are beyond that limit and it can also be easily reversed and decreased with a common understanding and practices. Hence Maldives has to see to it that 350 campaign is a success.
All in all Maldivians do not know about the goings on of the world on the Climate Change arena as the previous dictatorship had a nasty habit of withholding information.

Remmembering The Past

We have come a long way in our path of freedom and greater democracy,we have made pack ts with the Devil and slept with our enemies.Now we are on the pedestal of change itself.It is now that we all need to think for the Nation and be assertive in our decisions.
The new government of MDP did come through a revolution, but its wasn't like those of Serbia, Georgia India or any of the past popular revolutions of Democracy.MDP had a minor lead over the now opposition.The majpurity of citizens are still skeptical of the changes. The parliament is at a disarray with DRP majority.Their only thought and ideal seems to be to be the barrier of the changes the MDP government hastens to bring.
Well now we have to ask ourselves who has forgotten the past? For it is when we forget our mistakes and history that we repeat them and take steps backwards.DRP is headstrong in going back to the Dictatorial regime of Gayyoom.The people are ever more impatient and critical and more vocal on each and every step the MDP government takes. Of course the government today is young and very new and have been making many mistakes that should not be repeated.Their core belief of old regime citizens or rather the whole of the civil service might still be adamant Gayyoom supporters but i am sure they shall not stand in the way of good for the people.MDP NEEDS TO win over their loyalty!
For in the past it was these civil servants who kept Gayyooms government in place and they shall have skills from 30 years of experience that the new government might not.
DRP needs to be laid to rest with a tombstone that says "Never to Return". While their only strength is Yaameen they also have a leader who is for now sure not with the least bit of sanity.
In the past we have let our leaders play the role of sole decider and benefactor and employer of all the citizens of Maldives. That gave us 30 years of corruption and hindered development. Maybe it i snow time for us all to do our part in changing the country. TO support the development and be part of the national spirit.Someone says that democracy is a dream.Then let us not call it names but rather do it with wit and actions guided by free thought.
IT is now time to remember we have so much lost in the past that we shall not let it happen again.Remember the government is not the appointed but it is of all of us for us.Remember that DRP is the old and the past and MDP is our future right now. If MDP fails in this 5 years it is the failure of not only Anni but rather of all of us. Again it is us letting our government fail!!!

What makes Us Evil???

i sometimes wonder if i am an evil person.I wonder if where i stand on my beliefs and thoughts, do they make me evil? How can we tell if one of us is not on the right path? Or if they can be judged to be worse than us???yea religion tells us somethings are wrong plain right and there still is so much gray area that so many scholars don't even speak about.So how can we judge our own selves? Of course murder rape and theft can be defined as the evil characters...but what about the reasons? Do we ignore to ask why the people do the things they did? Do we blame them for their actions though we do not understand their reasons or hear out their justifications? Sometimes i think if what we consider to be moral if it really is...I do not doubt God at all or not believe in his holy book...but i definitely do not TRUST the so called scholars who seem to consider themselves only worthy to explain GODs will to the people.how are we to know the truth? Do we all have to revel in reading gaining knowledge and learning the truth ourselves? Back to the point...social well being is supposedly guaranteed by democracy adn religion and our own guidelines...but i guess we have to keep questioning and looking back and progressing or else we end up for example with Windows NT and Doom 3D latest version...now it would never run on the old system!!!

Past can be Forgotten but not Forgiven!!!

Maybe it is getting too alte for the Civil Society or the government or Political parties or Figures to pursue the Re apyment of all the loss left behind by the Past Dictator gayyoom and his regime. Maybe it is out of fear of oneself being entangled in it that so many political and vocal figures refrain from a court case or human rights case or simply even the media to dig deep and find the truth behind all the lies and deceipt by Gayyoom. For one thing i beleive you cannot start a new without cleaning up the past. Its like going to the dentist...you expect him to clean all his tools before he begins to poke inside your mouth with his instruments...you do not want the previous patients miscrobes being transfered to your mouth and im sure you can imagine where im getting at...So my big question is WHY refraine??? Human Rights NGO's are quite young and lack the technical aspects to deal with such issues and they do not ahve the knowledge...but im sure so many other authorities and pooliticians and parties have enough evidence...if we are to set an example of Gayyoom being set free without even a trial that cleans his records of the horrors in the jails and the torture of innocent and the malnutrition of islanders...do we also set free the peadophiles and rapists without a charge??? I do not understand it...Anni could say he will not pursue on his own...but shouldnt someone else be doing it??? where is the Maldivian Human Rights Commission ??? i beleive Nan reethi Saleem should resign if he refrains from carrying out atleast an investigation...dowsnt matter if there is no evidence..just follow a standard procedure...if we do not then anni and his government might commit such attrocities aswell and we would end up at the same place...!!!!Who ends up loosing??? The Fish??Also i do not say we should hold on to the past as so much it regresses our ability to develop and go forward!!!

Lean protest Peacefully and no Hinderance to Development!!!y

Well the opposition of the previous government started the protest/boycott/rally/refrain/and saying no culture amongst the people of Maldives. This was key in defying a rogue government until at times it harmed more than did any good. Guess that was one reason MDP became more political rather than activists.
Unfortunately some of the people are still carrying on with the Protesting, especially at the islands to limits it hinders more development than anything else. Maybe their reasons are that is the only way they can get attention but one can argue the newspapers are quite happy top report any misgivings of the new government in a zip!!! Is it not an option to exhaust all means of non violent non disruptive methods such as media before shutting down offices and schools??? The shutting down claiming not adequate is a argument that is defeated when they do it. The shutting down of public services means now they are more in adequate than ever before!!! They got to learn that one teacher [not so qualified] is better than no teacher at all...as goes for nurses doctors and public servants as well!!!
Well i guess time will teach people the best of ways...and maybe i have no idea of the situation at all...but i feel non violent peaceful protest such as sitting down at the beach and going live on radio and t.v will get you more attention than anything else!!!

THE NEW GOVERNMENT!!!

well with all what is being said and written about the new government i guess i will have my take on it as well.
The new cabinet is filled with politicians and new people who have never been in the government. There are educated youth and the street protesting hardcore democracy lovers. There are people who gave their jobs and families to achieve the goal of a democratic government. then there are the appointees by default form the other party's [note: i know this is the wrong spelling but ain't it more like this heheh]involved in the coalition government. Sadly a lot of the appointees have the agenda of bringing down Anni as president. That's politics i guess but think of the people for ounce!!!
Then there's the controversial appointees by Anni as well. Well i dearly hope like he always had before he has a plan under his sleeve that will bring about the best.
As of now there is so much change in the system. The people are motivated or atleast activated. Someone should do research on how fast the changes are coming. Some policies will FAIL...there's never a gurantee...but all in all i would say the rapid changes in the past three months is amazing. Lets us give them till after parliamentary elections.

Life is a Rollercoaster ride for sure

Well it has been ages since i last made a post here...well when i look back at all the past posts i realise that LIFE keeps going up and down and swift turns and slow crawls and it all gives a bigger rush tot eh rider.
Within the past three months i have gone through so much. Old job ends and new job im searching for...new girl i meet new girl i let go...old memories resurface and new memories are made. The new year was just perfect. Small gathering of the closest friends and the people that mean the most to me.Well all in all things come and things go.Memories can last if we want them to.
Right now i have a job untill the end of March and then i have to look for a new job. Quite strangely i feel elevated and enlightened on my path of unforeseen events that i look forward to unfolding right before me. The mystery of not knowing has quite evidently captured the romantic in me.
Well i guess personal posts are the least read here. so i will keep it short. All in all the new year looks bright and i have the strength and power to keep it that way. Lets see how things go now....

My sympathies are with you.I envy your courage and despise your dictatorial rule.I will remember how you came and how you went through and through.Your 30 years of iron fist rule come to an end with the prevail of Democracy and Freedom in Maldives.No more swearing with guns in Maldives, No more Bimbi Force to beat up Reformists, no more solitary confinement and torture for outspoken critics of the government,no more nepotism, no more to hundreds of hungry and unsatisfied citizens, no more island detention due to improper transportation mechanisms,no more government policies aimed at profiting the selected few,NO more Torture and Child Abusers and Perpetrators to be FREE,no more Drug dealers in the government or high posts, No more Extremism Tolerance, no more foreign policies based on self promotion of the Supreme Leader,NO more lies to the public or disillusions, NO more laws made to protect the few in power but rather to defend the poor,No more ONE party system,no more children with malnutrition in the islands and no MORE to all those life and freedom depraving policies and no more tolerance of Dictator S!!!
I Still envy your shamelessness in facing a public you betrayed.I just wonder what goes through your mind these last few hours?I will pray for you...hope you do realize your ways and ask for forgiveness form the lord.Forgiveness for the torture of thousands and death of hundreds. An Opposition Victory!!!

MAumoon Abdul Gayyoom topped only with 40%of the votes and the total of opposition has 60% of the votes!!!This is a historic day as never has Gayyoom scored so low in a referendum!!!
Now with the alliance of opposition backing MDP candidate Mohammed NAhseed[Anni] this will be a tough fight.Gayyoom as of now with his 40% needs about 15,000 votes to get over 50% to win...but the opposition if we are to assume already has 60% even if we loose some votes [say 10%] we still can make it!!!
lET US STICK TOGETHER AND DEFEAT THE DICTATOR WHO IS ON HIS LAST BREATHS OF HIS HOLD!!!

Well i do not ATTACK people so out right so often but now i feel i have to.Lets us remember the actions of these two gentlemen:
1-In the wake of Hussain Solahs death Dr.Shaheed forcefully took his body to Sri Lanka and had postmortem done and declared cause of death as of Drowning!!! I quote" ...As his cause of death is drowning we can now clear any allegations against the police.." Well Doc, who DROWNED him!!!
2-When Doc resigned form his government post he gave an interview to BBC saying Gayyoom is the Nelson Mandela of this region and the father of Democracy.Yea Right!!!
3-Dr.Hassan gave a speech in an island during his campaign for DRP. i quote "..Maldives is not big enough for a multi party system...we will have only one party and that is DRP.." kekek in your face we have over 12 partys and some are stronger than DRP as a party.
4-Dr.Hassan arrested or rather gave orders to arrest more than 400 civilians in non violent street protests in 2006.These people were locked up for about a month or two and then set free without charges.Yea thats democracy!!!Arrest anyone who voices against your Dictator!!!
5-The MDP Haruge [Dhun Fini] was destroyed on allegations of weapons of terrorism being made there again by authorization of Dr.Hassan...about a 100 people were arrested and no weapons were found.
LAST these are few past actions of these two . A friend told me ask people to fill in the blanks of this sentence:

Ok fine...i get so many complaints from friends and fellow bloggers complaining about my spelling.Well to tell you in simple it is because im lazy and careless during some posts.It is because i am not interested at the time of writing to correct the spelling. I believe that the spelling as as important as what i have to say...or maybe even less!!! Hence if my article claims critical comments then my objective is acheived.I know even in this article there are so many spelling errors but comparatively less.I am taking the time to correct them a little..ANYWAY this is boring...but just to pelase some people i appologise for my spelling errors.BUT i also would like to add that i probably will have more errors in grammer and spelling in future posts as well. :)
In the end if it bothers you i guess oyu always have the choice...you cannot be or should not be forced to read this!!!

Election WIll be Free and Fair!! ...coparatively...

Well we now have all these independent commissions and supreme courts and NGO's as well as foreign EU observers as well as local media and foreign media. We have laws about the election and we have agencies in charge of upholding the laws. we have observers who will monitor election vote boxes and counting mechanisms. We have a military and police ready for any uncivil actions.We have an improved Constitution and many political parties with 6 presidential hopefuls.There is little chance it can be rigged!!! i demand anyone who says that to leave the country and go watch elections in America and tell me that its rigged!!!
BUT i do believe that the4re will be attempts to make it seem rigged and attempts to rig it!!! Then again there is the play by Gayyoom of misusing government authority and funds and resources for his campaigning!!! That definitely is a foul in my game!!!
Election fraud is out but we have much bigger problems of voters who are eligible but not registered not being able to vote. We have the improper campaigning of candidates who buy votes and lie their way into getting votes!!!
We have many candidates who served to protect and promote the Dictator and now calling themselves fighters and leaders of Democracy...this election will be free and fair IF the people realize the wrong ways of these candidates and their lies and deception!! Rigging of votes will almost not happen!!!
THIS ELECTION WILL BE COMPARATIVELY FREE AND FAIR COMPARED TO THE PREVIOUS REFERENDUMS!!!

I seem to have got a good response to my previous articles supporting Anni and criticizing other candidates.While a lot of the comments i got addressed my grammar mistakes some also had credible idea and questions and points.The truth of the matter is though we all have our own theories and candidates nobody...i mean nobody is actually sure what will be the outcome of this election yet!!! That's the only fact we can be sure about!
While i support MDP candidacy for certain i am not sure they have a guaranteed ticket to presidency.Since so many people seem to support Hassan and Gayyoom still Then comes questions of what do we do if we goi to a second round and our favored candidate is not through?
What do you think? Second round Anni Gayyoom ? Hassan Anni? Gayyoom and Hassan?
What ever it is heres my plan! I will stand by Anni until he gets disqualified...IF he gets so then i will stand by the candidate the party endorses! If that does not hap[pen i will vote against Gayyoom probably..not yet definite!
Then we have the question of gayyoom winning the election! What do we do then? All the party's go on protest or do we accept the decision is of the people?
This is a BIG question!!!! Let us think about it..sleep over it...read more on it...and then decide..it is our future!!!

well i do not wish to criticize people..but then again we do not ahve a democratic society yet..right now we have to take all measures to get democracy into Maldives. A friend of mine who watched the Hassan Saeed manifesto launching tonight said to me "there were about 1000+ people". Well yes there are even more people who do not understand the whole process.People who still are new to dirty politics and history.Sad but thats the truth.
If by Hassan popularity he wins...we will have to accept it as the peoples choice! Then that day would be a SAD day for Maldives and DEMOCRACY!
The election will be the beggining of a democratic governance int he Maldives. If it starts with bad seeds the fruits will not be sweet. I do not doubt Hassans intelligence or ability to relate Quranic verses like a good poet, or his smart looks.I ODUBT his ability to form and hold a government. I doubt his in experience in the Maldives. I doubt his choices of political allies. I doubt his manifesto which is quite surprisingly similar to that of the DRP.
Hence i do not wish to sya anything more to those firends and others who support him...it would be a very sad day for DEMOCRACY if he gets elected in as president of the Free Democratic Maldives. He as a eprson who said he beleived wwe need ONE party and he who was very personal in crticising MDP and he who gave orders to lock up more than 400 protestors who were non violent!

WHY ANNi and Waheed!!!

Lets hope i can do this short!This seems to be a question a lot of people especially young people ask. I will put forward arguments and facts that were discussed amongst some of my friends.
In 1989 there was a movement for change in the Maldives. There were some few but fearless members of the Majilis who spoke out against the government. They criticized the Gayyoom regime and proposed new bills at the parliament that would have brought about many changes towards a proper democracy.Their actions were halted by violent arrests and intimidation by the NSS. The National Security Force and the Bimbi force [a group of Gayyoom supporters] harassed the reformists and locked them up and resulted in many Maldivians going back into a regressive life of fear. The most prominent candidate who got locked up the most was Mohammed Nasheed [ Anni]. He was a history buff as well as a good writer. His articles in "illegal" magazines were feared but popular read for many citizens who had suffered under Gayyooms rule. When Anni got arrested in the early 90's for being outspoken and critical Waheed [who had won a very competitive seat at the Majilis against the then Minister of Defense] ran a black ribbon campaign amongst the majilis members to protest against the illegal detention of Anni. Anni was THE figure of change and the movement of Democracy in the 90's and as we know today as well. People criticize Dr.Waheed but remember though he left Maldives those days to protect his life and in fear of intimidation and arrest and later when he lost elections in MDP he still has to be given credit for proposing the first human rights bill to the Majilis in the 90's. He was in the education Ministry and brought about a simple radical change that affected so many lives in Male'. He changed the regulation that school children had to attend schools closer to their homes when at the time mothers carried children along unpaved roads and wet puddles in rainy days for about 20 miniutes to get them to school. Then in the past five years Anni has lead the reform movement that created space for Political Party's and free media. He has changed the mind set of many Maldivians to demand for rights and express. Yes he did say he did not want to be president but he always promised to bring down Gayyoom. Then when the people of MDP the largest opposition proposed his name and pushed him to be the president if he had declined he would have killed the whole movement of change.Who better than the person who brought us this far? They started this together...Dr.waheed and Anni...let them have the chance to bring the change we all want...if not..they have created us the space and made us realize we will not accept a failed government anymore.
The most popular candidate next seems to be Dr.Hassan Saeed. Lets remember the past. History repeats itself. Dr.Hassan and Dr.Shaheed together tried in vain to kill the refrom movement and MDP. Remember the weapons of mass construction the MNDF found at Haruge on Hassans claims? hehe. Remember Dr. Shaheed said that a few people as usual on fridays appeared aat the Black Friday gathering when he gave interview to international Media? well Hassan also in DRP supported a ONE party policy and Promoted Gayyoom. Shaheed told BBC that Maumoon was father of Democracy. Then the three of them form a party and call themselves democratic. I wonder how many members voted in their party to choose Hassan as a candidate.NONE!! He is a self proclaimed leader of the people!!! Haassan seems toi be as put forward by one friend " modernizer" of the exisitng regime. He paints it a different colour and adds bits to it but the backbone still is the same. These are all people who participated with Gayyoom. Remember the over 400 people who got locked up for calling golhaa Force and walking on Majeedee magu?? Wonder who gave that order!
track records are always important...none of these people have got or given us enough proof that they are for change and the peoples better lives than Anni and Waheed. This is why it is Anni and Waheed!!! They stand for democracy ...always have and hopefully will...tonigths at the MDP gathering Anni said "if we fail after we win the elections to deliver...you can vote us out...this time when you vote for Anni and Waheed you are voting for yourself".
I cant promise they would be "perfect"...they could be worse..but for sure they would not be a dictator who would hold onto power as they are THE people who let us ahve the power to decide!!! This is peoples RULE! This is democracy!

We have waited so long for Gayyoom to face a question and answer session wehich we say tonight at the Siyaasath Program...my ahts off tot he rpesenter who did quite well while we ahve to realise the grip of Gayyoooms regime still holds us silent in somany ways even subliminally. Gayyoom asnwered so many questions with "SSimply Not True". The ever famous lines that im pretty sure Hill and Knowlton who Dr.Shaheed [Hassan Saeeds] jogging partner brought to Maldives gave to him. Well asking him questions of religion does seemt o irritate him most. While hes a learned scholar of Islam he sure took his time and dodged the questions skillfully like the 30 year experienced dictator he is. Then again religion is his own. Then he made the blunder of saying he DO NOT use religion as a tool for political gain. YEA RIGHT!
I SAY to all those candidates who recite Ayath form the Holy Quran...dman you people stop using religion as a political card...ti seems to be a last card thigng as well!! nOW THEY ARE ALL SELLLING RELIGION WHEN THEY ASK PEO-PLE TO VOT EFOR THEM JSUT FOR THE SAKE OF THEIR RELIGIOUS know how....then again who gives points for that???
Anyway it seems its now time for us all to take this very seriosuly and decide on who we like...shall wwe argue?..ill sketch every candidate in simple terms as i could..of course im quite bisaed to Anni

Hassan Saeed- Politically not mature, Umar Naseer- Doesn’t understand Democratic values, Ibrahim Ismail- Doesn’t play team game well, Gasim Ibrahim- Rich and Generous but not a politician or Diplomat, Idham Adam- WHO???, Dr.Waheed- Unreliable and weak, Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom-Dictator for over 30 years, Mohammed Nasheed [Anni] –Freedom Activist who opened our minds and brought the CHANGE!

It s been a long and worthy fight for Democracy. Since September 19...since Black Friday..Since the NSS turned against the countries own people...since the world realised the Maldivian dictators wrath...since Mohammed Nasheed [Anni] came to Maldives from exile and since MDP registred as the first political party in the Maldives and since so many hundreds of people spent many nights in Dhoonidhoo prison for simply voicing their rightful concerns and since free media was made popular and legal and since independant radio channels and since freedom and rights street demonstrations and since more than enhough political aprties registred and now compete for presidency...WOW...simply..WOW>..well lets see now with our new constitution are we really free??? Have we seen a fair campaign of candidates for the first democratic governance of Maldives?
I will simply go to the point here...i support Anni...simply because he has been a Heroe this country pages of history will name many a times...he is definitely been mroe true to the cause longer than any one else...ok the second most popular candidate amongst my friends is Hassan Saeed...who doesnt have a politcal party and who looks and sounds so much like a young Gayyoom...hes not had enough experience in the maldives...he in my opinion needs to be here bit longer and become more politically mature...he could be good...but then he has does not attract or have the best people arouns him either...i eman Dr.Shaheeds a good liar...a true politican..the one who told the world no one was shot in the jails...and said MDP was making weapons..and so many other thigns includinbg the Hill and Knowlton incident...anyway lets leave them and people aside..elts focus onh why i support Anni..well hes not the best presidential choice of character..hes more reveloutionary...then again as the alrgest opposition party MDP members chose him as president..as a true reveloutionary he did not give a blind ear.. he stepped up and he has refined his mannerism and thoughts to mroe presidential material than i ever thought he could be...NOBODY can actually go through any new policies that they seem to flaunt during campaign...i eman theres so much to clean upo with the emss gayyoom has left behind...so the simple ideals presented by MDP is enough to convince me...then again Anni seems to be the only candidate who did not refer to himself when talking about his term..he referd to MDP as running the government if they win...well i sure hope they do...thats it for toinight...ill ratlle more soon..

Why the hell do we need REEF RESORtS????? are we out of silands of the 1200 we got?? has anyoen done detailed research into the Environmental Degradation it could lead to???? I mean for one thign the EIA Environmental Impact Assessment Report is done after a company bids and wins a reeef...hence who knows what the status is of the resort before it was made??? What would ahppen to the current, ocean life, and many mroe environmental factors??? Havent we learned lessons in putting artificial island barriers leading to erosion of the beaches???? why cant the government cut costs and invest on more environmentally friendly methods to gain money??? DO we want mroe money in five years and NO country in ten years??? ....I wonder if Reethi Rah will also turn into a resort soon...maybe i should sell my right hand to someone else...and be rich..maybe government should start selling young children in their state care centers..that definitely would bring in revenue...!!!! I wonder how many young peopel between 18 and 25 think and worry about the changes int he political scene? im assuming NOT many! It is sad! i guess this has been the thinking promoted by the government for decades. Questioning is considered rude and unruly in schools from young age and children are spoon fed. I WAS SPOON FED!! SO WAS YOU!! now it is time to think of our future and our chidlrends. We cant be selsfish and decide we have what we want so theres not much more we need. There are so many unfortunate yougn peopel in dire need of a helping hand. The children who do not get proper education in Maldives and the less fourtunate who cannot afford health care and nutrition that are to mdoern standards. At this time of technology that unites us it will be much mroe easier for the young people to stand together and demand our future to be shapedd like we want it to. yes the old knowledge and wise thoughts of the aged politicians and people are good to consider but they lack the know how and changes in thinking and lfiestyle of the youth. If WE do not make our voices heard our future will be pretty much shaped by dinasaurs and progress will give way to regression. WE have the power to amke that change towards a better future. It DOES not make us a politician to be involved in the process of CHANGE...It MAKES us a politician when we hold a poltical post...RIGTH NOW we are in a stage when politics,human rights and deocracy are seperated by a very thin line. We need young people to come together express and make a stand. This is time for change. The reluctance of government to tax is major problem...the 200 mil needed by the government can be easily recovered experts agree but the reluctance to tax on tourism [right now about 6-8 USD on per bed even for resorts selling beds for 1000USD per night]and as suggested by a relative...tax on desirable goods like motorbikes and cigarettes. I mean compared to other countries we have a much cheaper oil price and cigarette price. These can be raised creating greater health and environmental safety as well. WE ALL KNOW the reasons for TAXation not coming into play most of the bussinessmen who own the companies bennifitting from these cheap goods and low fuel are also representatives of the governments legislative and executive body!!!!

Status Maldives:
Constitution: The constitution was supposed to have been finished by June. SO many clauses have been passed with minimal representation from MP's. The ones we elected are not attending hence leaving and absence for the Regime MP's to take the vote their way. Many articles are not inline with international treaties we have signed and ratified. Many articles are not finished. The new constitution seems to try to move towards proper democracy but people wonder will it ever be finished??
Election: Supposed to be held in August but we still do not have the new election commission which should be established according to new constitution a month before election
Old or New Constitution:The fight between DRP and the rest of the opposition is whether the new election will let Maumoon be eligible for candidacy. DRP wishes to ahve election under old constituion and opposition wants new. Nothing final yet.
MDP??:The largest opposition and the biigest thorne in Maumooons side MDP is failing in memebrship and recruitment and keeping it together. Sad to see the strong allaiance have failed.Munnavar being a sour looser wants to divide MDP and take his supporters with him.Where i wonder? Falhu rashakahtha?
Allaince: The allaince decided that the first election if no one gets 51% then we go for a second round [think of all the costs] and then the candidate who got highest votes in first election will be chosen as a Alliance representative and everyone backs him. Yea right! as if they would not stab each otehr in the back.
The People:Still confused about which candidate...most people seem to awant change but do not see another elader better than Gayyoom and everyopnes afraid of uncertanity making them decide towards Gayyoom it seems. More people are talking about democracy and freedom and rights but still mroe education needs to be there.While MP's get 60,000MrF the prices of food have gone up so much that ordinary citizens cant afford locally made tuna fish cans even.
CIvil Socieyty: NGO's and News papers are trying to create a more aware voting population. Trying to raise the importance of getting out to vote messages. But the capacity is limited and questions of integrity of NGO's are still risen amongst general public. Their work is often misunderstood and thought of more in political light.
Future???: Bleak very very very Bleak...Maumoons chances of staying in power grows with his throwing out money and subvertive campaigns. The big percent of youth whose future will be decided in these comming months woiuld rather party, do drugs and not care...it seems..and nobody gives a #$@%$%% about THEM!!!!

It comes in so many forms. The saddest truth is they themselves don't know what they are doing. Or maybe can we hold them responsible for something they should have thought of but just didn't?? I might not make much sense to most of you but I'm pretty sure some of you know exactly what i mean. I speak for all those who do not stand up for what they feel and believe just because they do not wan to make someone else uncomfortable or hurt or feel bad. Some days i feel like sleeping forever. well i will ramble here again..but this is for a reason...sometimes i wish i had the heart of a serial killer ...the soul of a reaper...i wonder how elevating it would be to not feel guilt shame or remorse or regret!!!!
I mean i go through life and do so many things i regret and wish i had not done..sometimes even knowingly we jump into the flames....maybe sometimes our senses go numb and our depth of reasoning becomes so shallow that anything goes...i wonder what it would feel like to be numb? Now i understand the song by Pink Floyd...their desire to feel numb..to loose all connections with reality..not be bothered by anything around us...to let loose and relax...
Maybe this is why a lot of drug abusers go back...relapse...the GUILT....Mistakes...Another thign is the society does make it worse by remembering only the MISTAKES of everyone...what about all the items we did so many things so right...and GOOD!!?? Why do we judge a person by his mistakes rather than his goodness???

i mean so much is going these days regarding the young people...gang wars and drug infestation of communities...isn't it at all troubling i wonder??? i mean there is not much we cant do if we stood together...maybe before anything else we need to change the government...i wonder how many young people really gave any thought to it...a lot of people are still at a stage where they just say " im not into politics"...but everyone has an opinion about drugs and gang wars...its seems saying they dont' like politics is a futile attempt to disengage themselves from actually doing something about it...taking the easy route out or waiting for someone else to do it...while at the end of the day the ticket to a peaceful country in harmony is in our own hands...all these problems of food security and personal security and health care and education all seem to be identified as big problems and accepted as so by the general public...but it seems none of them are willing to risk anything or risk change to make a difference...i mean the civil service bill is in and things are changing but there seems to be one constant factor resisting actual true change towards a modern democracy with rights of human beings respected...we all know who what that factor is....i wonder how many young people will actually sacrifice themselves for the future of their own kids??? i just wonder what will happen if a hundred [at the least] young people within ages of 18-25 sat down in front of the largest house in Male' and demanded for the change...i just wonder..maybe its just my flight of fancy...but maybe im not alone...

Well lets look at the political happenings of 2007 and conclude this...Gayyoom has done so much for himself and if we go into a election at this state well loose even in a free and fair election!!!
Now minister in his cabinet are blaming the ones tha left ...like the case of NEw Maldives and Mr.Nasheed. He seems to have deviced a plan all gether for Dr.Shaheed the ex minister to fall into and get entagled in. The case of Hill and KNowlton and the Dr.Shaeedh being accused of knowing everyhting about them and being part of it all...(i personally agree he was) but since hes now in the opposition Mr.Nasheed in a valiant effor tot distance himself from any accusation has desperately presented for all public to view SMS messages sent between him and Dr.Shaheedh about Hill and Knowlton. Well it seems everythign that happened including the spread of news to public media that a group of Ministers actiually decided whom to be arrested especially with political gatherings and when to draw the limits all saying that infact the ministers were at the foefront and not Gayoom on these happenings.. Well it seems now Mr.Gayoom can claim that none of what happened was his fault but rather his ministers who went behind his back...hehehe amazing isnt it????
Devious plan that can acctually work ...leaving the public frustraTED AND MORE CONFUSED and unable to trust anyone, except him.
2008 will be the deciding year of the future of Maldives..now it seems there is no choice but a peaceful reveloution against all the corruption that has left a country in a state of bizzare political and economical situations.

Well i dont have much to prove maybe i dont ahve to..maybe you already ahve your own eveidence on mishaps of the BOM...the thing is im not about to say anythign against the hard working staff of the Bank but rather the policies and non transparency of their development..and immaturity as a Bank.

OK ill leave all issues and go to somehting from their website today... if you go on to their website youll find that they baost their online application to Internet Banking...which is reveloutionary and praise worthy of itself as a service from the Bank..and i do praise them..but the websites crap..its got a ncie easy interface but the content ,management sucks...just try finding the onlince application forms to any card or service..heheh lemme know if its there....i found out the applicaitons infact in PDF form only appear in their Help section...strange but amusing as well...i was frustrated after an hour of trying to find the forms...voila its in the Help link..heheh stupid me...i should have known!!!

Also BEWARe all BOm customers using AMEX cards in Malaysia...most ATM's and shops dont accpets cards with Magnetic Strip...wat the hells with that??? Somebody got a clue???

Well another year has passed and we have learned many things in life. Some of them are that the people of Maldives really accept what ever shit that goes on in the Majilis...and the children of Maldives are not safe from drug dealers and Gang fights. We also learned that dying dinosaurs and failed politicians have little in common. Politicians can come back with a new skin with modern technology and pretend to be totally something else. We have also learned it the hard way that peoples perceptions on life in the Maldives has changed very little.
Big happenings of 2007:
1-Under age girl accused of consensual sex with 5 people who broke the door to get to her and her parents slept through the whole ordeal
2-the Justice Minister, Attorney general and the Foreign Minister quit the regime and joined the alliance against him
3-Gang fights lead to a death of a youth and no out cry from public enough to bring about any pro action against further such incidents
4-Well the crocodile in the children's park is still there
5- Nobody but a few reporters in Haveeru seem to give heed to the collapsing sea walls in islands including Male International Airport
6- or and the cleaning lady in Theemuge got promoted [Yippeeeee]

I wonder what lays in store for us in 2008??? Or and by popular demand i will bring out a wish list for 2008 soon....

Maldives-Gonna Sleep with the Fishes - at this Rate!!!

Well its been a long time since the opposition started and not much has been gained and Gayyoom still is in power and also going to compete in the next election.
The saddest thing of all is that is he competes this time and actually wins it [which is quite possibly] he will be in history as the first multi party elected president in Maldives.
Well as i see it the opposition is divided and there is too few reputable candidates who would compete for presidency as of now. People are saying what if the next guy is as bad as Gayyoom?? My answer would be we bring him down!!! unless the young people and the whole community takes full interest int his issue i do not think we shall ever beat Gayyoom or find someone to replace him. That is the TRuTh!!!
Well any candidates opposing Gayyoom really need to come out with the Opposition party or else the votes will be divided by people who support the individual and the party and hence give leverage to the supporters of Gayyoom.
I believe it si time someone calls out for united effort to beat Gayyoom in a free and fair election as Reveloution has become flights of fancy of yeteryear.

Maldives Environment Diying!!!!!

there are too many issues and too little concern n importance given by the necessary authorities..our environment is dying!!!
ill list out some problems:

1-improper waste management no proper methods of managing..most islands still practice dumping into sea or in fresh water lakes called kulhi government hasn't researched or given alternate or better methods..most islands burn it or some have it collected via MTCC landing crafts and takes ti thilafushi island n burnt no recycling or proper separation or proper protection of waste leaking into sea
2-lack of public knowledge and government interest in the environment:the public have not been made aware and government authorities have failed to do so...no proper laws and regulations
3-biodiversity lost:species rare to only Maldives are going extinct...no proper protection policies or implementation...sharks and turtles and birds...
4-over fishing:without realizing it our fish supplies are diminishing..with changing sea temperatures and currents...new methods need to be found
5-education :our education system has very little about our fragile environment...no schools and research centers are in Maldives just because a government corrupt person cant; own it...

well i listed these as these are issues i felt ppl neglect a lot when talking about the environment...thing is without this environment being protected we will not b here..well b second grade citizens on a foreign land or under the sea...

well i would if i was amongst a lot of other people in Maldives. it seems to be the common trait. people do not care about fellow brothers n sisters. no body is perfect but you could help someone else just even though you have nothing to gain. cant u?
i hope u understand my point. i'm trying to say social,community,volunteer work doesn't exist in Maldives. the concept of helping out your neighbor went away with development...with buildings n cement walls between neighbors. people chose to not to adapt.
unless the young people decide it is time we gave some of time and attention to help someone else, we shall never achieve nation wide development without unity. look at the situation in himendhoo...the drug problems..all problems swept under the rug just because they don't directly affect us at the time...well now shouldn't we wake up? not eat sleep n work but also help out!!!
all theories are perfect in paper...government has the population believing Maldives will be rich n over developed in no time when these resorts n hotels are built...but the truth is it wouldn't be so unless we have the unity n brotherhood we have lost...
its time we all thought about whats around us n actually did something good for the community not because it has direct benefit for self but someone else.. hold your the hands of your brothers in need...hold hands and be united...together we are stronger...

Gang Violence Escalates while the Star Force and Police Get paid more than the Army!!!

Well its not secret that the gang violence problem has escalated through out the Maldives. Children and young people with knifes and intentions to harm people they roam the streets freely. While most of the theft that has occurred through this months of Ramazan was committed by felons who are supposed to be serving long sentences in jail but have not yet been arrested by the police, the police are also failing to gain public support by not making it clear why they are having this problem.
If these situations go on for too long i bet the general public will defend itself by Any Means!!! Then we have more people armed tot he tooth with broomsticks to iron bars.
Again the Police go on TVM and say department of Corrections and penitentiary have to deal with them. then the Ministry of Home Affairs will say that the Public are not helpful and then the Information Minister will say its all to do with Ghasim's Cable T.V regulations [on his personal blog]Then the Foreign Minister will go to Europe and claim Maldives to be Free Fair and determined for Democracy and Talk global Warming to smooth the Western Leaders and keep them quite.
So in the end there doesn't seem to be a solution other than patience. As of everything else that goes wrong in the Maldives, lets pray god helps us make it better. There is absolutely nothing the public can do than live in fear!!!
Or and my final point...the Police are paid about 5,000/- even while in their first training that is far more than any ordinary civil servant with a Diploma gets. So maybe it's time they did their job and protected the whole population rather than protecting one guy and his cronies from justifiably frustrated large portion of the population.
I have faith they can do much better...Dont you?

Its no secret that most Maldivians find themselves handling two or three jobs along with work at home. We do not hire plumbers, carpenters electricians and baby sitters that often. It is but a changing trend. We used to do everything all by ourselves...i wonder now does that make us more productive or not??? Or spread ourselves too thin? Well i personally found myself spread like butter on a toast during the World War two in Maldives...
We all seem to be juggling these multi tasks...some of us are really good at it but with changing fast pace of things in the world i believe that efficiency is lagging way behind... maybe it is time we started focusing on singular objectives and goals..rather more focussed goals...at least i need to!!!
I'm finding it very hard to do as there are so many areas of interest for me...going without even one will feel like I'm blocking a window of expressing for myself!!
The time is right ..i guess this is a very boring post..but i had to let it out...just before i go post sum pics on my flicker and finish the report at work and go for the NGO meeting and deal with some stuff at home before i go meet my friends at the dive school....and...and...and....

You guys know exactly who i am talking about...the guy that comes to your homes as well and takes away everything you do not need in daily life..including food waste, expired furniture to cleaning your garage even!!!! Building your homes to massaging your feet!! Looking after your children, driving your car and taking care of your old mother fro whom you cant find time
They are angels of society that require a medal of bravery. Fighting off young immature super heroes gone wrong, who get a kick out of beating up old people and stealing from old women and little kids.Leaving their families thousands of miles away dependent on what you and i give them. these are one of the most integral parts of the community that are not given way over due credit.
The food you eat at home very probably came from a foreign worker who worked her ass off in five different homes that same day to keep the children happy and parents satisfied and earn less than a 1USD a day!
IMMIGRANT WORKERS!!! the ministry of foreign affairs has not signed Maldives onto the human rights convention on immigrant workers,, not that signing such a act actually enforces their rights here but is gives power to the work done by civil society and makes government accountable. Maybe the Foreign Minister doesn't see these workers as human beings or maybe he employs Maldivians for everything and hence doesn't know the situation fo the common people as he lives in his 8 story building and drives round in government given [people payed] chauffeured car and sits in his expensive office and goes on his "official trips" with his green passport in business class!!!
Anyway i will go directly to my point..well we need to ensure the safety of these people and protect their rights...and there is the problem that they are not expected..Yes they are form lower classes of society form their countries and do not have manners at times and lack polished English and dress in adequately and lot of the times do not have the time and resources to take a shower!!! But isn't that partially our fault? we do not encourage these things and we don't pay them enough and give them enough free time?!!!
well this is not a topic anyone do not know but rather do not bother talking...swept aptly under the rug!!! well the the rugs got a hole now and here is stuff blowing all over....do we sweep it abck in or do we actually deal with it????

well Majilis is supposed to be where they decide the future of the country...governance and constitution..peoples rights and resolutions...economy and countries budget...but the dogs seem to be barking at the pigs and the chickens are trying to get out of the frying pan into the fire..and the fish are swimming towards cleaner water while the crows crow day and night and the mosquitoes are breeding like hell and the people bleed..bleed for their future..crying in shame that there representatives seem so futile in shaping the countries future!!!
Well the people suffer as they wage personal wars..well at least this is what some people believe...i think it is going quite well!!! true colours of the people are starting to show and the worms are turning and the "verin" instead of the "vagun" are having their day...slowly!!
People argue that the members in the majilis are wasting peoples money and not getting any where...well for me i see the un-elected members standing in the way of reform...and the opposition strong on Gayyoom and his cronies resignations!!!
Without shame some people seem to be stating that they are serving the president because they believe in his reform agenda!! Bull shit!!! They are just protecting their personal interests just like a lot of others!!! The ministers who quit did so because they thought when Gayyoom fails they will be left in the sun so as a precaution they took the step!!
I wonder how many people are actually determined to help the people?? One big suprise seem to be Mr.Reeko Moosa Manik...someone people used to think just as another guy in for the name seem more determined and resilient against the regime!! A speaker and understands the peoples needs which makes up for his lack of educational certification!!! Maybe right now we just need a vocal leader who understands our situation!!
Then theres Mr. Jabir and the PA group of Mr.Yaameen!!! though not on the opposition they are opposing the regime probably self interest motivated!! Right now do we care?? I don't...well let them bring the change fast and then also have watchful eye on their behavior afterwards!!
Anyway Ghasim seems to have dug a hole too deep and buried himself in it...no longer the peoples savior!!!
TO wrap it all up..there is slowly change happening...with the government very fearful after the referendum realizing the opposition had a strong number of people behind them...they even stopped the MDP rally on the vote issue with such force that it showed the fear within the regime!!
People have been patient..now that the Majilis is on TVM it is educating the people...they understand the process and the importance of the members they elected just because the guys spent a lot of cash in their islands and made empty promises of jetty's and harbors!!!
SO George Orwell was right..we are all animals..some animals are more equal than others...when we make the rules..hehehe lets pray to god that change is soon and peaceful and that the new government do not follow ion the footsteps of the existing regime!

Long time Later I come to Life

Sometimes there is t=so much that you have to do in life that you end up doing everything under the sun and still not doing what you really want to do. Also you realize that all that effort and time you put in to doing all those things actually do not mean anything. Efforts in vain!!
Well here i will rant on again about the country of Maldives.I do it cox i really feel passionate and have feelings and memories attached to it that could never change or be forgotten.
Well the recent politics have left me wondering why so many opposition supporters seem to be working to over throw a dictator ship that seem to have quite a lot of money and people behind it. what is the point?
Then theres the Environmental issue..people are ignorant and the media gives minimal coverage..and the so called local experts seem to be more than happy to charge a hell a lot of money just to give their opinion. I mean we are going to build this City Hotel and get rid of all the beautiful scenery and soul soothing fresh air by doing so. Just so that the the government can collect 15% of the income tax from citizens for the expected next ten years by making the company that wins the bid to build the Hotel pay that amount. Well the amount seems to be if the 15% is less 5mil$ USD then they got to pay 5mil$ USD and if its more than 5 then they pay that amount.
Government is going to collect the tax our children and youth will have to pay in ten years to come..in advance as the government is running on a deficit budget.
Any way but there is no say as no one seems to have taken it into their hearts to protest or even question the tourism ministry. Not even the media. its sad.
Now theres life at home. Everything is great except for the fact that thins keep changing too fast for you to adjust. Ever get that feeling?

Wasted Effort on Independance!!!

the Brits left us on 26th July 1965 but have we had independence since then? After the reign of presidents like Nasir, Ameen and the lot who sure gave us such independence that the people even got out dragged and banished and lead to the death of one president.
Then in 1978 the people of Maldives elected the Religious leader from Azhar University, AL UZthaz Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom. The savior of a nation who fast paced to expose the previous president Nasir like a thief and a dictator. He rallied young school children onto the streets and had public vocalizing of his own feelings via his followers. Well all Maldivians sighed in relief that such an evil president was "banished to Singapore to be one of the richest men there" and that they had the new leader and president and spiritual guide, Gayyoom!!! [by the way if you type "Gayyoom" and right click in word..alternative words for it include Doomsday hehehe]
That sure turned out a sour apple now didn't it? One of the very few Maldivians to own a gun and actually held it when he took the presidential oath in fear of retaliation from someone! Well that fear seem to have persisted and increased over time.
Anyway back to the topic...i don't feel very much liberated as i don't think Independence refers to the Brits leaving us but rather to freedom of the people from enemies within and foreign!
We are trapped in a cage of lies and deceit and people have lost faith in our dear leader. All his work and effort lost...in vain...maybe we should just let him go to Singapore too and be richer than Nasir..that should show off the ex Thief of a president, Nasir!!!
Long Live the People of Maldives and their Independence...Lets fight for it and not let dictators make decisions for us...not waste any more time..save our future and save our country!!! ISthiufaa ....

System of Government? Do we care? Will it make a difference?

Well the hype of the day is the system of government ..or is it? The two leading political parties MDP and DRP seem to be head on about promoting their preferred system of government. I mean they since the beloved "people elected" Parliamentarians decided to hold the referendum on the 18th of August 2007 the people of Maldives still seem to be as ignorant as ever on the two systems.
I mean does it matter what system we have in the end the members of parliament will the businessmen who give the most to the people...the good really patriotic and genuine people will never make it into the Majilis.
The political parties with leadership that seems to be solely based on gaining power will never be true to the people. Misleading the people by claiming that there is no life for the people of Maldives unless we go along with the system that they are promoting. isn't that what we already are experiencing? A government telling us how to live and giving us rights that they decide we should have? We are not given a choice or chance to think by ourselves.
the civil society of Maldives needs to strengthen sooner than the rate it is going at right now!!
They will be the last line of defense for the people when another dictatorial regime comes to power!
I personally have no faith in the political parties that exist int he Maldives. I wouldn't want to be a politician but i am human and Maldivian hence i care!! I try to understand what these people are trying to do as they are playing with our future and our country. this is our Maldives...not MDP not DRP or Kolieeegey!!!
My point is right now MDP is not giving people a choice rather telling them that their side is better!! when your good you don't have to prove it...people will know!!
The only reason anyone should support the system MDP is supporting is to just say "NO" to the system proposed by Gayyooms party, DRP.
I simply don't care right now which system it is...Id rather see a stronger civil society!!!
Hey but i am not saying don't go and vote!! We have to vote!! It is our right!! It is not about getting into politics but it is in fact the opposite! Lets decide on our own rather than letting a self centered power crazed political party decide our future!! GO out and learn about the systems as it is our future these guys are playing chess [rather Russian Roulette] with!!!

At last the trial of Zahyna Rasheed the unlawfully and un ethically fired employee of the UNDP funded project of Ministry of Atoll Development has reached a verdict.
The Honorable judge displayed virtue and fairness by providing equal opportunities to the Ministry to defend itself and Zahyna to prosecute them.
On claims by a handful of [politically motivated now we can say] individuals in the ministry of Atolls Development zahyna was fired on accusations that she supported MDP in its call for people to gather on the 6th of November 2006 to rally for speedy reform on constitution.
While she was there she had proper identification from the Maldives Police service and was with the Detainee Network which has legal rights under the current constitution and Min. of Home affairs she was still accused of being part of the rally by two ministry staff who claim they did see her there supporting MDP.
Well the judge thought otherwise...so i guess that means the staff from the ministry of Atolls development lied and now should publicly apologize to the Zahyna and the government to all the other such politically motivated workplace rights violations in and through our history.
ZAhyna winning the claims of financial retribution for the rest of her 6 month TOR with the ministry [she had already completed 3 months of it when she was fired] this is more a moral and human rights and civil societal victory.
I guess now we have to thank his excellency president Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom for it can be said it is under his reform agenda that new reform on rights and justice are brought about. So i guess under that same agenda the Ministry of Atolls development including the minister who signed the letter that asked zahyna to stay home should be held accountable.
SO lets call the Ministry and the people who testified to the courts and prosecute them now shall we?
People did int believe Zahyna will make history and win her case and the first ever case in Maldivian history and a lot of people looked down on her as if she was the one making trouble. Well shame on them!!!
Either the ministry should be held responsible or the Judge and our judicial system is flawed. Hence either way our systems are not perfect!!! There also is another second case of suing the government of Maldives going on right now!!! please update yourselves as these are issues that we all face.

its been so long since i have written here...i find myself kind of uneasy or rather slow for the flow to begin...but i guess a break away from you attachments in life gives you a much clearer picture when you come back...things which didn't make sense or that i took for granted seem to be viewed at a different level now! Everything is new again! Wonders of the human mind.
Well i think a break has been great for me i got new ideas floating and new topics to talk about...assuming even if one person reads what i write that makes my day! :-)
SO maybe all it takes at times to see the solution to an existing problem is to take a break and step away from the problem and then come back and see it in a different angle...
I need a break from life's routines now...Holiday somewhere i guess...The music show and office work and life itself had been bit too much for the past month...or more...and like friends keep telling me "i am spreading myself too thin"..i NEED A BIG HOLIDAY !!

well another environmental day that celebrates life and the varieties...another day for all of us to remember we are not alone here on this planet Earth...well its also another day for the government and the authorities of Maldives to forget!!! TO use as a news headliner alone...Well it's about time the people of this country woke up and said it's time we take our countries well being into our own hands...why let a couple of dictators at the top destroy our country and we stand aside and watch??? If you want to make a difference please all you dudes out there with a mobile phone or camera ..when you come across even an insect that looks interesting please take a pic and send me...i'm collecting them and trying to get the labels and names right...i also island folk and people traveling can take pics of different birds, insects animals and fish and mail me please...at least we can have memories of some of these species that will very probably go extinct in the near future...so that our children will get a glimpse of the loss of species that we caused and so they may learn ... Loss of one species is the loss or break of chain of a whole food chain...it in turn can cause a major species loss!!!It has happened and is happening!!!

Yea right..the government of Maldives failing the people when they really need the government by their side...More than sixty islands affected by two days of rising tides are left stranded...this is such a small place...wheres the Coast Guard and the Finifen Maa Launches and sped boats??? People of Fares Maathodaa maybe need them...then again they were the same people who got into a big fight with the special forces of the Maldivian Police Service not long ago.
Wheres the ministries and authorities that so readily calls opposition media as in accurate and un reliable...though Sappe' of DO does has his side to it...he has quite literally covered more updates news from all these islands sitting in a room thousands of kilometers away in UK. I mean do we lack the resources to go out to the islands and get a report ready at least assess the damage if nothing else? Maybe its time we started investing in a Tsunami and geological monitoring system for the Maldives. Voting Rights For the 18 Year Olds...Yeah!!! GOTV!!!

Well at last the rights of the youth are being granted...after work by individuals and NGO's and Political Parties the rights of the 18 to 21 year old youth are now protected ... and hopefully so will it be in the new constitution!
Some people may be confused...but the right for voting at 18 goes for the the public vote on deciding the Governmental system that we want along with the new constitution!!! Well its up the political parties [who just by chance seem to be split upon which system] to advocate for their system of choice. DO we want a Parliamentarian or Presidential System...???
Then theres the concern that young people of that age group not being interested in politics or developmental issues at all.They do not know what the whole process of change is about and how important it is for them to express their ideas and feelings as it is their future that we are deciding today.
I personally have not decided what i would vote for...and I'm pretty sure so have not a lot of other people...most people just follow through with the decision of their Politically Affiliated Party's decision. Most people just have no clue what this whole reform process is about...I'm not saying i do understand it fully either...what will the consequences be of the actions that we take today in the name of reform???Are we guranteeing a better future for our children???
hence if the youth do not involve themselves in this then their future is being decided by a biased and old generation of people who do not understand fully the concerns of the youth.
Also would like to point out that the civil society still needs to do more on awareness and taking the hate of politics from people and making them understand that politics will be there always in everything they do...and does not make you a politician to voice out your feelings on the present politics.
Anyway todays victory is for the youth..though they may not know it they have jsut won a battle!!!

Life...is it about getting good grades and a hundred certificates that tell the reader that you are capable of this and that...degrees and masters degrees and PhD s.... I know many ppl who spent half their lives studying and the rest of it griping about not being able to use most of the knowledge...then they are old and married and settles down with kids and family and they end up at a boring desk job...sheeeeesh is that what i want? NO!!! I'm sure there are so many people who do not know what to study and cant get the funding and cant find time...i for one was not sure what to go study...i had interest in so many fields i was lost and confused...lack of guidance counselors can some in handy when you wanna loose loose your head...i do not seem to have any special skills...and there is little opportunity for self funding hence i have to convince some rich old bastard to fund me...hehe...of course only the Creame get the chance to go on the government schols. I n the end i have decided to do something that will help me make a difference in this country and earn me enough to survive...isn't that what we are here for? Why waste my life studying something that don't make much of a difference? hence i do not think the time i "wasted" wihtout going for or trying to go for higher education was a waste!!!!i think it has been most enlightening to work with different people and areas of work...Hehe..now i decided what i want to do and ma trying to get a placement...this is so f**king Hard!!!

Male' Breaking Apart! Cracked Up!

Male is falling apart into pieces, according to the research done by the Environment Research Centre. This not the first time the concern about the cracks in the Male; house reef and root coral have been reported! In fact after the 2002 collapse of a bit of land offshore of Nasandhura palace hotel, where the Hulhumale ferry terminal is, there was a lot of hype about future EIA’s and more research. Five years later now someone’s done it for us and all we seem to be doing is play the “Blame Game”. ERC claims it told the Ministry and the Ministry of Environment will probably deny it and it will go on and on while the mother coral holding the Male’ in place will get deteriorated and the hairline cracks grow into anacondas that shall rip the land apart.
Nobody seems to be questioning the construction industry with all the construction that seems to be going on we have to at least think about the amount of weight we are putting on this fragile land.
Politics seem to be prevailing and playing devils advocate here. Personal grudges between people in the Ministries surface when such a big topic is in the air. So who in turn gets hurt? The Public!!
Ignorant to what actually is going on the public can do more to help if they are educated and made aware now couldn’t they?
People remember, Male is like on top of a glass sheet…If the weight increases…CRACK!!!!!!

Mistakes and Forgiveness!

Some people expect to be forgiven for something they did on purpose to hurt another. Where’s the fairness in this? I mean if you kill someone because of hatred towards someone can you ask for forgiveness from that persons loved ones?
Can we ever be truly forgiven for something like that? Even If the guy says he has reformed and feels a lot of guilt for his past actions can he forgiven? If so, for how much?
I believe that everyone deserves a second chance...and maybe even more, depending on the circumstances. Maybe the higher being [GOD] shall punish man for his actions in hell. So we can punish them according to laws we make [which quite often might not be the most just]. So if a man confesses and then asks for forgiveness and says he has reformed and then when he has been forgiven he goes back and does it again…how much patience and acts of mercy should we have?
Life is so difficult to understand sometimes, but Life Is Beautiful, if you make it.
Mistakes! We all make mistakes, nobody is perfect and that is life! Deal with it I say! Some people expect others to be perfect and others forget all the good that you did in the past when you make a mistake. Mistakes and anything that is considered “bad” in the society seems to be the defining factor of a person in the eyes of others. As it rains I wish that all that is bad can be washed away like tears on your cheeks. I wish that people will forgive more and learn to move on. Some people just hang on to the tiniest of incidents for the rest of their lives collecting and harboring it inside their mind. What a lot of good that is! Depression, high blood pressure and mental illnesses are the only results of that!
Then there are the things that can’t be forgiven...

Maybe I have talked about this before…but again I come back to the topic of “WHAT DO WE REALLY WANT?”. I mean as a human being itself an individual I quite often come to the point where I don’t know what I really want!!! Then its quite difficult to know what to do next. Everything suddenly stops…then I look at the options which are always there…and usually go for the easiest root or the one where I could probably have more fun and pleasure, which doesn’t always seem to be the best choice, through experience.
Well when you come to the junction and there are four paths to choose from I always choose the one with less traffic or better lit or the one with the best shops to buy stuff from. Hence this is not always the best choice. All that dazzles and glitter really aren’t gold most of the time.
I think this problem of not knowing where to go from a point…like when a man strives in life to become the best swimmer and he gets the gold medal after years of hard work he realizes “what am I going to do now?”…is now prevailing in the society as a whole.
People seem to be confused about what we want…do we want Maumoon to go? DO we want MDP to win? Do WE want to help in the whole process? DO we want to just wait and see if a leader emerges? DO we want our children to experience a revolution?
WE are literally at a junction with many paths…making a choice is so hard but it is time we have to...those people who did not make a choice because they didn’t know what to had worse fate than those that took a difficult path. As staying at the junction too long can get you run over by a 12 wheeler truck!!! Move on people…I think its time we decide with one choice of the majority and then stick to it. If it doesn’t work well change that and take another route. Just don’t waste time being stuck too long...life is too short!

I watched Heroes…I love the show…it makes me remember the times when I was young and wanted to fly and all…well Heroes is like Batman…more real life characters are portrayed experiencing real life situations…well its great!!! Simply awesome!
The fact remains still that real life people with powers and talents do exists…Doctors and firemen and Fishermen who do something that makes a difference in life are they not Heroes themselves?...heroes of their own making!!
“With great power comes great responsibility” says Superman. Who takes more responsibility than doctors? Superman never operated on anyone...in fact he aint even real!! I do love Superman by the way just that he is not real!
Anyway all I am saying is that we are all heroes and there are those people with real mental powers. People who defy normal Physics and venture into paranormal or metaphysical phases! People, who bend time, levitate, absorb energy, eat nails and much more amazing feats!

Shark Are gonna go Extinct!!!

Sharks are highly migratory species and they are quite ontop of the food chain in the marine environment! If they are to go extinct that means a lot of other species will also be in jeopardy!!!If there are no sharks...the prey grows in numbers and consume more than it should and then creates an imbalance...guess what happens then!!! Well Maldives ahs protected areas where you cant fish shark!!! But the fact is since hthey are migratory...it doesnt matter if you ban fishing sharks at one area as they will not always be at that area and in the end get fished out at some other area!!! Maldivian shops like this one near the Ports Building and next to cumstoms cafe' are not helping one bit when they boast shark parts to be sold!!Boy cott these shops or educate them if they do not understand yet!!! NOw who shall do that???

Dont you sometimes feel like giving up and just laying down for the sweet lord to send the angel of death to take our soul away? get the feeling that nothin seems to be going the way that it should...You feel that all that you beleive in could very well be a lie and deception...an illusion created in the eyes of a person who has the need to beleive...a person who is human!!! Sometimes it feels like someone is ready to grab the carpet from right beneath my feet...im waiting for it at times...tired worn out and clueless as to what the next step in life is!!! I wonder if this is how a person at the brink of death feels...a white tunnel moment i guess...only thing is im not diying!!!
So what is wrong i think to myself...am i really lossing it...but then after a while of these thoughts flowing through my mind and lips at sometimes if someone is close enough to hear [poor bugger]...the feeling starts to wear out...the rational thinking bit of my mind takes over!!! It compares and weighs the thoughts and stick to what i used to beleive...i start agreeing that this is just a momentary lapse of thought and belief due to over work and extensive stress...there i go i diagnosed myself!!! Now im back to thinking like i used to!!!
NOw a mroe frightning thing or thought arises....maybe im just showing a blind eye and giving a deaf ear to a thought that might rattle my cage!!! Nah...i know im right!!! my thoughts are right...or are they???

MDP or DRP or The Kindergarten KId i dont Care...i WANT Peace and Democracy!

People complain that MDP is not upto expectations or DRP is not what the Maldivians need....then i wonder what we really want?...we dont want Maumoon..we dont want dictatorship...we dont want a "golhaa force" or rogue groups of youth ..mobsters and drug addicts...A lot of us dont seem to want Anni as well...so what the hell do we want??? Are we satisfied and happy with everything the way they are???
A new constitution would be great..but not one made with compromises and biased towards the governing body of the country...not one made with blood shed and witha hunderd people in jail...not one made for the benifit of a dying regime...not one made for the benifit of a new regime either!!!
There are thigns int his society that are bad not because of the governemnt but because the people have not bothered to do anything about it!!! Mr.Gayyoom stayed in power because we let him be...the population is so uneducated about politics and ignorant to human rights as we let ourselves be so!!! We cant blame him for everythign but we can blame him for using it to his advantage!!!
Wherers the civil society that needs to educate the people?? Wherer are the people who studied abroad??? WHose teaching us politics??? Whose telling us what we are getting into??? MDP faisl to engage the public and are more concerned aboout comunicating with the international community...so some one has to engage the public and explain this is now not a MDP or DRP problem but "Raiyyathunge" problem!!!
THis is now humanitarian...this is about our freedom and our rights...let us not let a gorup of over paid MP's decide waht we should have..lets get involved...!!!!Ask questions!!! ask your MP what he can do for us!!! Ask him to hold seminars to explain the whole process of new constitution amendments!!!
Theres such a thin line between politics and humanitarian work at this stage of the Maldivian situation!!! the civil society is in a deadlock and unable to move ahead!!!
I Do not care whose in power but anyone who had commited a srime should pay...but the constitution needs to be amended and new elections held...let the pople decide...but before that explain to the people waht a constitution is and what a referendum and election is....

The democratic hanges htat came to Maldives since the registration of MDP [Maldivian Democratic Party] cannot be denied or over looked. The registration lead to the oficial recognition of an opposition view to the existing government of the time. How MDP came to being can be passed over as it was not pretty, but what came after that definitely ahs to be recognised.
The existing government faced out right criticism and protest and demonstration against its policies and governance methods.members from the government quit or was fired for joining MDP.The existing governemnt hastned to make a political party of its own and un oficially declared its party the ruling party.
People beleived in MDP after the Evan Naseem incident and demonstration had passion and feelings.The arbitary arrests and beleif by some people that going on the streets was not acceptable that it should be more of communication along a coffe table lead to decline of protestors. The MDP leadership was not strong as Anni the one guy everybody bet their hopes on did not want to go for MDP presidency as his beliefs were more genuine and humanitarian and patriotic at times. Old dinasaurs that used ot be in the past government came to join MDP and some people criticised them.But if not for them who else is there cries out MDP memebrs and supporters?
Some people claim that MDP is not strong or efficient or look for any faults...but what they dont realise it is that MDP is a people movement and now a political party for the people by the people. HEnce it is upto the people to make it strong!!!
Some people claim they do not want to get invovled in politics but how can they not? this right now is not about politicians with their ties and lies but more about the rights of the people. Everyone is by default involved...if you dont support one party your by default letting the others gain. The change movementhas started and mroe young people need to join in. Yes MDP is not perfect...and all they do is not 100% right but isnt it our job to secure a future for our chidlren? IF not us then who? EU, USA, UK? United NAtions>? I dont think so!!!
So young poeple...learn and know your rights and fight for it!!!

Well the issue of the month seems to be voting rights at 18. Well i have to say why not? infact its a must!!! If we dont give responsibility to our youth then we cannot hold them respoonsible for their behaviour now can we?...People argue that they are too young to vote at 18..but not young when they get married at 16!!! YES 16 is elligible age for marriage under special circumstances!!!

Now lets looka t he reason for the government to stall the debate at the Majilis:

Giving the rights to vote at 18-21 will mean MDP the strongest opposition gets more young people who either are in support of them for their rebeliousness or just plain they hate Mr.Gayyoom!!! THis will mean bad news for the existing government as they are about to go in for a referendum on the Type of Government Maldives should have and they quite outwardly support the presidential system [no surprises there].

Then again we also have to look at how much aware the young people are on the issues of politics and democracy. Their interest is almost nill or their fear of retribution, or fear of fitiing into society [the dilemma a lot of young people go through] might be holding them back. Education and awareness of the youth on politics and democracy methodology should be a factor that someone ought to take interest and proactive action in!!! SO the Majilis president says that the current constituion [the one we pay 7,000 mrf per Mp to work on to create a new one] does not allow the young people to vote hence tlaking about something not in the constituion is not legal inside the Majilis!!! LAme ass escuse id say! At a time when we are designing and framing a newe constitution why bother about this??? NO reason but their fear of power loss and strength and their illegal corrput finances!!! This was a speech he gave in 1989...i wonder how much beach and land erosion has been prevented...[other than in Male'].. how much environment has been considered in our quest to strengthen our economy by creating more resorts and tourism...Environmental Refugees seem to be now more real a thing than ever. SO LETS STAND UP AND FIGHT....IN SPIRIT OF HIS SPEECH!!! ...too bad we have to fight the same system that called for the fight...but even in case of a teacher and students...if the teacher is wrong the students have the right to point out...NOBODYS perfect but Everybody should be open for criticsm and sujjesstion!!! WE DONT WANT DICTATORSHIP THAT USES OUR ENVIRONMENT AND ECONOMY FOR THEIR OWN PURPOSES!!! Look At The Waste we Generate!! Whose gonna Dispose it?

This picture was taken on April 7th 2007 and is showing a rubbish disposal or collection site near the Male Hiyaa Flats. Infact right behind the flats. The garbage there seems to iclude hosuehold waste to constructions ite waste. Isnt it ironic that the Garbage Disposal/collection site is right next to the Flats where hundreds of people live?

The funny thing is there is vegetation growing on top of the mounts of waste. Like proud trees on top of a mountain, they stand. The point is the population is growing and the amount of waste being disposed is increasing rappidly. What we need right now is a better waste disposal method that is more environmentally safe.I mean the waste has been left there long enough for plants to grow!!!! So maybe its time we all thought of reducing the amount of waste, The 3R's!!! Reduce -Recycle-Re-use!!!

Metal Music at the ROL Broad Band Craze!

Music is not dead!!! It’s metal hard as proved by the bands that played their heart out at the ROL Broadband Craze music show held last Friday night. There are so few music shows held these days and so it was no wonder when so many people turned up for this one. Music is not appreciated and valued as much as it should be in Maldives. The culture of violating copy right laws and listening to foreign music seems to have had a drastic effect on the musicians and their life work. Things are changing! New light appears as bands like Serenity Dies are releasing their second album. Big shots like Zero Degrees and Mezzo seems to be stuck in a vortex while younger bands are looking for any opportunities to sneak their way into the so called “music scene” of Maldives. Recording studios of Maldives are not able to support local bands with original music as they won’t sell. With genre’ specific bands like heavy metal bands they would be lucky to sell hundred copies of their original work which will not even cover their initial cost. In a country with a population so small as just 270,ooo locals, it will be quite hard to find people who will like and have spending cash to buy original; local production music.
Maybe here’s a thought for the common man…WHY NOT EXPORT MUSIC FROM MALDIVES??? Our musicians are considerably good and their own material are really good too…I mean look what Zero Degree achieved and that cant be a miracle but more of hard work. Our Musicians like Fasy are making it big in international arena. If I had enough cash id invest in music export.

From sacrifices to the mother earth by some of the much older civilisations to the present celebration of life on earth of present day countries, The Earth we live on and survive and have to respect and protect has to be celebrated in style!

Celebrate Earth day by remembering the Vulnerable Environemnt we live in and by creating awareness on environemntal issues the Maldives is dealing with! Maldivers diving centre and nine other dive centres are going to celebrate Earth day 2007 by by cleaning up two famous dive sites! . The lions head and old shark point near thilafushi! Ministry of Environment and Schools are supporting and going to celebrate Earth day 2007. Tsunami Monument!!! All take a minute to remind ourselves of the terrible fate of the victims of the 2004 Tsunami!!! Remmber the lives lost and savour our own and thank the lord for our own!!!

The million MRf monument should bring comfort to the thousands living in unfortunate conditions still. Some even living in make shift shacks!!! If they are ever able to come to Male' and walk down "lovers lane" " Raalhugandu" "Thin baaru vakikuraa" area they shall be reminded of the fate of the Male' people having to remind themselves of the fate of the victims while they sit near the Gaadiyaas eating and munching sweet pan and in the shade of the million rufiya monument!!! Amen to who ever came up with that idea!

Well i see so many people complaining about a lot of things...well complaining or identifying the problems are the begining...the problem is the solution still is far away and we have to work to reach it!

Dreaming of space and novelties that are only fantasies yet...is not bad a t all...it should even be encouraged! I mean..people say in comparission to India or Sri Lanka our beautiful country is much better!!! Well we only got 300,000 people and they got millions and billions, we got one religion [ officially recognized] and race, and so many differences! But if we are to compare and be satisfied with the standards that we have [in comparision to someone else] then we shall never progress beyond this point! The big countries take longer to progress but when they do they do in such a large scale that it leads to mroe development!

Any way what im saying is we do not ahve to beleive that this is enough and the state our country is good enough, instead always work to make it better!

Everyone who complains i wonder how much they did to make the situation any better???

You have to get your hands in the dirt before the seed sprouts and a beautiful tree grows and flowers.

It is extremely hard to actually believe that we can be a modern society of change and acceptance! It is so hard due to the facts we work directly against it at the moment! I mean there are so many events and incidents in the Maldivian present history that seem to contradict the democratic thought of Tolerance. I mean isn’t that one of the major factors that differs us from barbarians?
It is so hard to be accepted in this society as it too small compared to any other country. Anyone who has been able to bring something new or different to this country; or something that was quite radical and been able to be accepted is an admirable person. People try to hard to fit in sometimes. I found it hard to fit in as well when I realized I had a different school of thought by nature.
We are judged by our thoughts behaviors and expressions it seems. If you do something which is not generally done or if you go into a taboo subject then people rather than try to understand you would it seems avoid and brand you. They seem to know by some kind of greater power or self of being that they are right in what they say and believe and everyone else is wrong!
Religion is being used a as a tool for everything these days. I’m pretty sure GOD did not ever desire the people of this world to use him as an excuse to kill each other or attack one another. Well isn’t that plan foiled!!
Well my stand here is I think everyone should be given their chance to express what they feel on any topic…at least it should be so if we are fighting for democracy. What holiness do me or you have that someone else don’t to judge them at a level of their morality for something that did not harm anyone else? Accepting people who are different needs to be a basis of a society heading into these times of hatred spewing like lava from a volcano.
SO all I have to say is jus because someone is different from you doesn’t mean they are wrong or you are right. Judgment will be made. As long as everyone’s intentions are to help others and not harm then let them be. That’s what I believe.

Well let’s start a new campaign… Kill the Man Eating Sharks Campaign!
Maldivian government [Fisheries Ministry] gives permission to hunt sharks in certain areas of Maldives! Some companies including Big Fish are said to be some of the beneficiaries of this business! I do not say we should not fish at all, at least do some research and their should be some monitoring done by someone!
Shark fins are exploited and dead carcasses left in the sea to rot; is not the ideal environmentally and biodiversity concerned way to do it now is it?
There are some tourist shops that are against selling shark teeth, maybe a good policy that everyone of them should follow by! The demand for rare bones skeletons and teeth are sort after by rich and collectors type of people with so much money that they could own Maldives with. Hence makes the money factor a disadvantage for the sake of environmentalists and against animal cruelty workers!
PLEASE DON’T BUY SHARK PRODUCTS!!!

Keep Male' Clean!!!

Maldivian policies and campaign and laws and regulation and proverbs and songs and poems have been supporting the keep environment clean campaign. Maybe we just got too many programs that none of them actually work!
Well this is of a campaign started sometime back…IF we don’t care about our environment then who will? I mean the USA or UK don’t give a damn about the low lying nations. USA refused to sign the Kyoto Protocol even.
So make every little bit count…just cause the government started it don’t deny it…this is not for them but for our children…anyway the government is paid and voted in by the people…so make every effort to help the fragile environment of our country…DON’T THROW RUBBISH ONTO THE STREETS! PUT THEM IN YOUR POCKET AND INTO A RUBBISH BIN SOMEWHERE!!!
Male’ is just a square kilometer people so its not going to be a long drive before you get to a dustbin!

The government maybe can or rather the people including bussinessmen can join to put around more rubbish bins all over the street! Just a sujjestion!

Mid night blues....

Finding peace in Male' is not easy at times...i eman theres always a comotion...T.V , mobile phones, road noises, cats on the roof and roaches under the bed! Irritating isnt it! Well sometimes i need a peace of mind time...to relax and reflect ont hings and life and days gone by!

TO try and to realise how i can make my life any better! Or maybe keep on haivng the same thign that i had the day before..try to not make it any more worse!

I find the late at night is the only time that any peace can be found in Male'..even then you are not free from road noises of cars, motor bikes and the screaming banshees of young people who have absolutely nothing else in life to do, than to be awake at night and sleep by day!

Vampires...btu is it me or them? I could be a Vampire of the day?...anyway...late at night after midnight...lying on my bed i try to reflect..le tmy mind wonder...gaze through the haze of life...thats when i realise..DING!!! Silence is found inside my mind...i neednt let other people bother me all the time...i caould just think louder htan any noise i hear...well poeple it works...i ahd two cats going at it on my roof...Water apples [Jamburoalu] falling form my neighbours tree on my roof, and a kid playing heavy metal guitar nextdoor...and the occasional road sounds...but i still was able to think out on my own ...its abit hard but you can do it..so i realised maybe sometimes we cant change other people but we can change our selves...anyway i think im rambling here...so ill go try to medidate on Majeedheemagu at 8:00pm tonight! People watch out!

Graffitti..An art form or Rebelious act..or both???

Well we cant deny that Maldives has its own graffitti artists....the famous Fish and the Rat seem to be rpominant signatures of some graffitti artists! Well some people may label them as artists or some may argue they are mis fits of the society becomming a menance!

well my way is they are both...yes htey are artists as they draw or paint or rather spray what they feel and express freely...Sometimes [but very rarely in Male] do you see graffitti on a private wall, defacing it!

This is an artform that can grow in Maldives!

Support this campaign to hold the first Graffitti Art exhibition in Male' where all graffitti artists and amatures will come together on one place and express themselves on cardboard..live..music and a fiesta! Give me your ideas!

I caught this picture of this government vehicle carrying new furniture as it seems and heading towards you know where. Well i just thought as they didint have any locals on the vehicle...[probably dont trust locals for such importantn secret issues] that maybe the only way for me to get this out was to post it...they are such beautiful fursniture...we are so lucky as Maldivians...such expensive furniture...if only the Tsunami vitcims and the less fortunate people of the society could have better conditions...maybe then we wouldnt mind "some" of the seniors of our governemnt owning big building bussinesses and way too cool furniture...! THey sure got taste check out the design on the cushions..golden!

Did You know About the Night Time second hand clothes market in Male'?

Well i came across these groups of people who open up a nightly market of second hand clothes...from jeans to shirts to underwear to t-shirts...this is one hell of a good idea!

Maldivians have this iamge concept and self ego problem about wearing ahnd me downs and second hand clothes. Anyone who could always prefers to buy new clothes...well its good but so many a time it wastes money too...

THis new venture is an ideal way too late already...the clothes available are of quite good condition if i say so myself...i was tempted to buy a cap but hey i aint got no resort!

Anyway foreign workers and fishermen crowded the area making their pick!

Well the society needs to accept these concepts and maybe one day well see a charity second ahnd cloth shop and more ...

Someone said to me the otehr day that it is people who are sad and lonely and "have no life" who own a blog page...Maybe she was right! Since she should know as she got the most wonderful life that even her MSN nick is " IM Only Happy"...well anyway it provoked my mind.

Why do i have i blgo i wonder?

Expressing myself withotu resitrictions is like medicine for a fever that seems to have no end. A welcome change from being stopped in mid sentence before i could make myself heard or clear or let pople know what i felt. Here i am the king. I Own this page and many more. I do what ever i like and say what i feel. If you dont want to read it you can always leave...dho?you can even comment on my feelings and emotions and i dont edit or erase them!

This place is a free world where anything is possible...Making friends loosing friends dating...undating...remembering things..forgeting life...YEA THATS IT!

well election is officially on 2008...for the first time in the history of Maldives we shall be voting in a multi party election! Whether we support a presidential or Parlimentary system doesnt matter!

Well with campaign already satrted by some of the more prominant and hopeful candidates, it is about time we get the ID cards and stuff sorted out!

I hear that they are digging up graves for ID cards...[Mahyithun voatu laan fashany o] we do not want dead people voting for someone we do not want neither do we want more people than in an island registred population to have voted from that island...no floating ballot boxes next year i hope!

Hopefully civil society willl take some initiative and responsibility to monitor the whole process...maybe even campaign projects should be monitored!

Freedom of Thought....Hindered Growth of Mind...Wake up and smell the flowers!!!

This is my first attempt to try and write with as much less spelling and grammer mistakes as possible. Wish me luck!

Well... i beleive that the freedom of thinking is related to freedom of life...Freedom of life i mean the freedom to go on living with your own choices and no restrictions and forced thoguhts!

People will not even try to think freely and critically if their basic need of freedom of food and lives needs are not met! I eman how could you wonder about life and the creation of the UNiverse and read "The breif History of Time" while your hungry and tired and still have to go for your second job of the week as you have to feed and house and give medical care to 6 members of your family who live in a ten by ten Room which is described as Home by the youngest kids in school essays about "My Self"!

Well this is my point...Maldivians sued to write a lot and msot of the old poems and essays talked of life in flamboyant and poetic language that the young people of the present generation find it difficult to undertsand!

Our ancestors had the luxury of white sandy beaches and empty space and blowing of wind and the sounds of nature! They were not the least bit bothered about work pollution corrupt governments or Wars in other continents!

Well to get to my point...or maybe my question...is congestion of housing and busy lives making us stop or hinder the gorwth of the mind? Will that mean in a couple hundred years the civilizations will come to a Big BAng stop??? No one to stop and smell the flowers! NO one to wonder why we were where we were!
