well i do not wish to criticize people..but then again we do not ahve a democratic society yet..right now we have to take all measures to get democracy into Maldives. A friend of mine who watched the Hassan Saeed manifesto launching tonight said to me "there were about 1000+ people". Well yes there are even more people who do not understand the whole process.People who still are new to dirty politics and history.Sad but thats the truth.
If by Hassan popularity he wins...we will have to accept it as the peoples choice! Then that day would be a SAD day for Maldives and DEMOCRACY!
The election will be the beggining of a democratic governance int he Maldives. If it starts with bad seeds the fruits will not be sweet. I do not doubt Hassans intelligence or ability to relate Quranic verses like a good poet, or his smart looks.I ODUBT his ability to form and hold a government. I doubt his in experience in the Maldives. I doubt his choices of political allies. I doubt his manifesto which is quite surprisingly similar to that of the DRP.
Hence i do not wish to sya anything more to those firends and others who support him...it would be a very sad day for DEMOCRACY if he gets elected in as president of the Free Democratic Maldives. He as a eprson who said he beleived wwe need ONE party and he who was very personal in crticising MDP and he who gave orders to lock up more than 400 protestors who were non violent!
Sigh...

I quote line 01, 02nd paragraph, 'If by Hassan popularity he wins... we will have to accept it as the peoples choice! Then that day would be SAD day for Maldives and DEMOCRACY.'
A bit contradictory wouldn't you say? In essence you are saying that if Hassan wins the election (by a popularity vote) that it would be undemocratic! Democracy is about the majority, we have to respect democracy and respect the majority's decision. We cannot go on and imply that it is undemocratic because our personal choice for a president does not happen to be the choice for the majority.

democracy is not abt majourity alone..ti ahs many aspects...wen one says he does beleive ion one aprty system and works to defeat the begining of m,ovement for democracy and freedom..how aare we to jduge that person other than to say undemocratic?
I agree, democracy is not only about majority. It is also about diversity, toleration, respect and the ability to compromise amongst many other aspects.

tnks thoriq...may we see a leader who has compromised self for the benifit of the many...
Wouldnt it be a much sadder day if Anni or Maumoon gets elected?
Anonymous, why do you think it would be a sadder day if Maumoon or Anni gets elected? Surely you must have some basis to for this statement?
THORIQ.
Cos either way country is in to loss.
We dont want an activist with a bunch of druggies behind him as a president Plus I am sure no sane person considers Maumoon as an option sensible. He is out of the question.
If Anni does get elected I am sure it would not be the first time in world history where people have chosen an activist-turned-politician as their leader.
I do not think your comment regarding 'druggies' deserve an acknowledgment. However taking into account that a huge percentage of the population are drug addicts or were at some point in time I am sure we have such 'druggies' supporting all our presidential candidates. If by chance what you say is true then what MDP is doing is quiet admirable, trying to make use of these so called 'druggies' and trying to bring them back into our community. Would you not agree?
Sorry forgot to put my name on the above comment.
THORIQ.
it would be a very sad day indeed as the same people who prolonged this regime ,defended it when no one believed them has manage to disguise themeselves as people bringing power to the masses. A joke and what a big sorry.
Leftback very true.MDP and DRP is more or less the same now.
WE dont want to doze off with the president and go to another Maldives. This Maldives is fine with us along with changes
well tahnk you all for thsoe comments...i am sure...these are all feelighns we all beleive that we talk about here...no one should blindly follow a leader...As for Lefbacks...i agree so many people come in disguises..we ahve to be careful...
Looking at the candidates, I can see only Ibra as a champion of democracy. He has stood by his principles all along, and is campaigning on upholding the rule of law.
wow ibra ppl really hittiiing da blogs eh?...hhhehee
"Well yes there are even more people who do not understand the whole process.People who still are new to dirty politics and history.Sad but thats the truth"
Hamza, you maybe saying something dangerous here. Essentially, what you are saying is democracy needs to be learned - Gayyoom has been saying the same thing for generations. He said on Siyaasath, it took him 30 years because people were not "ready" for it.
If people are not ready or in your words "do not understand" they will never be. We are born with the sense of rights, democratic values in us. We are not new to dirty politics.
Do you really believe politics will be otherwise?
Rich will control politics. Powerful will manipulate it and make policies to their benefit.
Show me one country in this world that is so altruistic? It will always be a fight for people like myself.
Anni, MDP candidate, just like Hasan, Maumoon or Gasim is also supported by a lot of wealthy people in this country.
Parliamentarians will be funded by them during their campaigns and will be influenced to make laws.
To bring the change we dream of we need a strong civil society that need to get organized.

These videos are very interesting.

Hassan Saeed Video
it will indeed be a sad day for democracy in maldives if hassan saeed and shaheed wins this election because
a) they don't believe in a multi-party system. they are trying to disguise their disdain for a multi-party system by saying they will opt for a government consisting of best people in the country, if elected. the truth is even Anni can pick a cabinet consisting of people from outside MDP if elected. MDP's alliance with Gaumee Ithihad is the first indication that MDP is open to compromise. Anni has invited Ibra and other players to join this alliance. But Dr Hassan had said in the past that Anni cannot make a party, Ibra cannot make a party, and there will be only one party in Maldives, and that is DRP. Watch Dr Hassan's hypocrisy from youtube videos at http://hassansaeed.blogspot.com
b) Dr Hassan sanctioned unfair promotions and practiced nepotism while in office. Read about Dr Hassan's unethical practices from http://antinewmaldives.blogspot.com
c) It was Dr Shaheed who lied to the international media and Maldivian public and whitewashed the torture in Maldives in his role as Chief Government Spokesperson and later as Foreign Minister.
I can add several more to the list. But I am too tired and frustrated that well educated young people are forgetting that Hassan Saeed and Shaheed kicked us in the stomach during our journey for freedom. Let there be light someday.
ANARCHY is the only answer......well maybe COMMUNISM too.
Slash again im there with you...and Anonymous you sound so like my Bro????
