You guys know exactly who i am talking about...the guy that comes to your homes as well and takes away everything you do not need in daily life..including food waste, expired furniture to cleaning your garage even!!!! Building your homes to massaging your feet!! Looking after your children, driving your car and taking care of your old mother fro whom you cant find time
They are angels of society that require a medal of bravery. Fighting off young immature super heroes gone wrong, who get a kick out of beating up old people and stealing from old women and little kids.Leaving their families thousands of miles away dependent on what you and i give them. these are one of the most integral parts of the community that are not given way over due credit.
The food you eat at home very probably came from a foreign worker who worked her ass off in five different homes that same day to keep the children happy and parents satisfied and earn less than a 1USD a day!
IMMIGRANT WORKERS!!! the ministry of foreign affairs has not signed Maldives onto the human rights convention on immigrant workers,, not that signing such a act actually enforces their rights here but is gives power to the work done by civil society and makes government accountable. Maybe the Foreign Minister doesn't see these workers as human beings or maybe he employs Maldivians for everything and hence doesn't know the situation fo the common people as he lives in his 8 story building and drives round in government given [people payed] chauffeured car and sits in his expensive office and goes on his "official trips" with his green passport in business class!!!
Anyway i will go directly to my point..well we need to ensure the safety of these people and protect their rights...and there is the problem that they are not expected..Yes they are form lower classes of society form their countries and do not have manners at times and lack polished English and dress in adequately and lot of the times do not have the time and resources to take a shower!!! But isn't that partially our fault? we do not encourage these things and we don't pay them enough and give them enough free time?!!!
well this is not a topic anyone do not know but rather do not bother talking...swept aptly under the rug!!! well the the rugs got a hole now and here is stuff blowing all over....do we sweep it abck in or do we actually deal with it????

Good article! something that was bothering me during the last month. It's ironic that majority of the maldivians are so racist towards people from some of our neighbouring countries. Most of us belittle them and abuse and torture them, yet we depend on them for daily function of our country. What's wrong with the so called "modern" maldivians?
modern maldivians hehe nice but iguess itw our culture n way of thinking..it starts in da skools..education is lacking..
fenupary, I am guessing that the term "modern Maldivian" is a misnomer in this case, observing how we treat expatriates (Nope, not just talking about the loathsome stereotyping "Bangaalhi". people, that is a Maldivian term for Bangladeshis. Not a bloody generalization of the next expat). Forgive me, a group of people who possesses such retrograde and denigrating perceptions cannot possibly be considered "modern" or contemporary in any sense of the word.
But I cannot agree with you more on your other point... it is ludicrously ironic how we antagonize them while displaying the same level of independence an overgrown retarded baby does around them. After all, who is going to take out Hamza's trash? "He ain't touchin' it! He'd rather like swim in it, y'know"
Kudos to your post, KK, I really loved the beginning bit... so much passion and enthusiasm. Almost felt like an homage. Hehe. Lets quit sitting on our collective asses and do something... for your garbage man's sake.
Fizan: you satiricle comments are always very well received...inside the satire i find more truth and well defined ideals that i wish you would express more...thank you...again..you are right ...we need to get off our asses!!!
