Well its not secret that the gang violence problem has escalated through out the Maldives. Children and young people with knifes and intentions to harm people they roam the streets freely. While most of the theft that has occurred through this months of Ramazan was committed by felons who are supposed to be serving long sentences in jail but have not yet been arrested by the police, the police are also failing to gain public support by not making it clear why they are having this problem.
If these situations go on for too long i bet the general public will defend itself by Any Means!!! Then we have more people armed tot he tooth with broomsticks to iron bars.
Again the Police go on TVM and say department of Corrections and penitentiary have to deal with them. then the Ministry of Home Affairs will say that the Public are not helpful and then the Information Minister will say its all to do with Ghasim's Cable T.V regulations [on his personal blog]Then the Foreign Minister will go to Europe and claim Maldives to be Free Fair and determined for Democracy and Talk global Warming to smooth the Western Leaders and keep them quite.
So in the end there doesn't seem to be a solution other than patience. As of everything else that goes wrong in the Maldives, lets pray god helps us make it better. There is absolutely nothing the public can do than live in fear!!!
Or and my final point...the Police are paid about 5,000/- even while in their first training that is far more than any ordinary civil servant with a Diploma gets. So maybe it's time they did their job and protected the whole population rather than protecting one guy and his cronies from justifiably frustrated large portion of the population.
I have faith they can do much better...Dont you?
